Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind serves ultimatum to Indian Govt. to get Muslims problems redressed

Bhopal, April 10: (Pervez Bari) The Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, (JUH), Mahmood Madani faction, a national organization of top Muslim clerics, has served ultimatum to the Indian government that it will launch a country-wide “Millat Bachao” (save community) campaign if it fails to give a positive response to address the basic problems and issues confronting the Muslim community within a stipulated time of 21 days.

The announcement was made by JUH president (Mahmood Madani faction) Maulana Qari Syed Mohammad Usman Mansoorpuri while addressing a Press conference here on Friday. He said this was decided among other things at the day-long JUH’s National Working Committee, (NWC), meeting held on Thursday (April 8) here wherein about 40 top Ulema of the country participated.

Maulana Usman informed that if JUH fails to receive any positive response then “Millat Bachao” campaign will be launched which would kick-start from Kolkatta, the capital of eastern Indian state of West Bengal, on May 3. This will be replicated at other state capitals namely Patna, Lucknow, Ahmadabad, Jaipur, Gauhati, Hyderabad etc. where JUH activists will court arrest.

He said that the NWC rejected the Women Reservation Bill in its present form and demanded that 10 per cent reservation be given to Muslims in admission in educational institutions and government employment as recommended by the Justice (retd.) Ranganath Mishra Commission report. This is to bring Muslim community, which is an integral part of the Indian nation, into the mainstream so that it also enjoys the fruits of progress of the country and India becomes a developed state in the true sense of the world. The Muslims condition has been relegated to worse than Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes as Justice (retd.) Sachchar Committee report has stated, he pointed out.

Maulana Usman said terrorism in any form is not acceptable to JUH and t considers Naxalites’ violent campaign in many parts of India is also a form of terrorism. He said JUH has appealed to all those who are indulging in violence to get their demands redressed should come into the mainstream and adopt democratic means and ways to make their voice heard.

It may be mentioned here that a convention of JUH (Mahmood Madani faction) is to be held here at the historic Iqbal Maidan here on April 10. JUH president Maulana Usman will preside over the convention. While its leader and Member of Parliament Maulana Mahmood Madani would be the chief guest on the occasion. Clerics from all over the country would address the convention.

A two-day training camp has also been organized for the JUH activists of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh on the occasion. (pervezbari@eth.net)
