New Delhi, July 27: It is not first or last time for Union Minister Jairam Ramesh to catch in the controversies. During his tenure as Environment Minister he remains the center of several controversies. Hence, he was shifted to less important portfolio of rural development. But, ‘he wants to be he’ wherever he goes.
He attends a meeting held at Bikaner in Rajasthan on Monday. When he comes on to dais the local leaders have put a Kadhi made garland in his neck as a token of honor. Then, he puts it on the table placed before him. When the other leaders are giving their speech, Jairam has observed that his shoes were not clean and immediately he picks up the kadhi garland and cleaned his shoes with it, dismaying the guests including the Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlat who is sitting beside him on the dais.
We all knew how the kadhi (cotton) become an important instrument in our freedom fight in the hands of Mahatma Gandhi. But, our minister Jairam Ramesh knowingly or unknowingly has used the same to clean his shoes. This irks the hosts as well as the other political parties of the state. They are demanding apology from the Minister and the Rajasthan Chief Minister who didn’t stop him from doing so.
Senior Congress leader Janardhan Dwivedhi responding to the demands has stated, those who are holding positions in the Government should be aware of the importance of particular items and symbols and should know how to respect them.
