Jailed legislator sworn-in in assembly

Ranchi, January 08: Already convicted and jailed in a case failed to stop Harinarain Rai by taking oath as legislator-elect oath of office in the 81-member Jharkhand assembly.

Rai, who has been booked by the Jharkhand vigilance department in a graft case for allegedly amassing wealth of Rs 1.60 crore, was brought to the stateassembly from the Birsa Munda central jail here for the swearing-in ceremony.

“These are just allegations and investigation is on. I have full faith in the judiciary,” Rai told reporters after taking the oath.

He was re-elected to Jharkhand assembly from Jarmudi constituency in the November-December assembly poll last year. Rai has been in jail since Aug 17, 2009.

Rai took oath after Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren, heading a new coalition government in Jharkhand, comfortably won the trust vote in theassembly Thursday.
