In protest against the alleged Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s “escapist attitude” on a debate over the sensational “Call Money-Sex Racket” attitude, YSRCP president and Leader of the Opposition Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, before proceeding to the Assembly, performed “Palabhisekham” (milk bath) to the statue of Constitution author Dr B R Amedkar at the Tank Bund on Friday.
Leaving his Lotus Pond residence at Banjara Hills in the morning, Jaganmohan Reddy straightaway went to the Hussain Sagar Tank Bund and performed Palabhisekham to Dr Ambedkar along with his party legislators.
Speaking to the media later, the YSRCP supremo alleged that the ruling party on Thursday brought the issue of Dr Ambedkar’s birth and death anniversary celebrations next year in the Assembly with an intention to avoid a discussion on the boiling “Call Money-cum-Sex Racket” in the House. Towards this end, the Chandrababu Naidu government orchestrated police raids on the private money lenders all over the State in order to shield the TDP legislators from the scandal, he alleged. He also declared that his party would continue its struggle against the ill-intentions of the government.
“It was neither Ambedkar’s birth day, nor was it his death anniversary on Thursday. It was not the day when Ambedkar started or completed writing the Constitution. No significant event of Ambedkar falls on this day. If at all any such significance is attached to the day, Chandrababu did not even mention it until the Assembly was adjourned for the second time. Then came up with a strange proposal to discuss about Ambedkar in the Assembly, only to divert the matter and save his own skin. Nobody in India misused Ambedkar’s name so blatantly and shamelessly,” Jagan Mohan said after paying tributes to the architect of Indian Constitution.
Later, Jaganmohan Reddy and his legislators proceeded to the Assembly by foot. (NSS)
