J-K to update its BPL list

Srinagar, June 27: Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to set up a committee to update Below Poverty Line (BPL) list in the state.

The committee, comprising officers of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD), Rural Development and Revenue Departments will jointly scrutinise and reconcile BPL lists as prepared by CAPD and Rural Development Departments, an official spokesman said here today.

The reports of the committee will be submitted to the Planning and Development Department within a period of three months which will examine these reports and submit them along with its recommendations to the government.

He said as per the criteria, households headed by widows or terminally ill persons or disabled persons or persons aged 60 years or more with no assured means of subsistence or societal support are entitled to be in the BPL category.
