Chennai, January 07: India’s Somdev Berman today said he was not unduly worried about his defeat at the hands of Serb world no 28 Janko Tipaserevic in the singles pre quarter final match of the ATP Tour Chennai Open 2010 here toninght.
”Yes, he happened to play way better than me. But I am going to learn the right lessons from this match”, the Assamese born Somdev, who shot to fame on the ATP Tour finishing the singles runner up in Chennai Open last year and going to be the key player in the Davis Cup.
When asked if Tipsarevic simply powered his way through the one sided contest which Somdev lost 2-6, 1-6, Somdev said that was not so. ”More than power, it was his positioning that was the key”, he observed.
Somdev said it was not that he himself had hit the ball badly.” No, I don’t think I struck the ball badly”, he added.
”But the guy(Tisarevic) hit some strapping shots”, Somdev added.
Asked about his next stop, Somdev said, ”Hey, I am playing the doubles here. I am focussed on the doubles right now”, and added he would play in the Australian Open, the season’s first Grand Slam.
”I hope to qualify for the Australian Open”, he said.
