New Delhi, December 22: The Apollo Hospital has successfully treated a teenager from war-torn Iraq by performing a procedure – brain vessel bypass surgery – on the poor boy that cost a whopping Rs 13 lakh to 14 lakh, which is said to cost a pittance in a prestigious government run hospital here.
The corporate super-speciality hospital performed for the first time this surgery on a 14-year-old Ahmed, who was suffering from aneurysm, which had paralysed the right side of his body, doctors claimed.
The same surgery costs Rs 15,000 to 25,000 in the prestigious government hospital AIIMS, claim its doctors.
Ahmed had suffered a stroke in the brain resulting in slurred speech and weakness of right side of his body. Doctors diagnosed him with aneurysm which occur when a blood vessel begins to weaken and stretches outward, forming a pocket of blood.
