Tehran, April 22: Iran on Thursday started military manoeuvres in the southern Gulf waters in which the Islamic state plans to test locally made missiles, Tehran media reported.
The war games held by the Revolutionary Guards also aim to maintain security in the Gulf and especially the Strait of Hormuz, the main route for regional oil transfers.
Iran’s armed forces have stepped up their manoeuvres in the wake of renewed speculation about a possible Israeli military strike against the country’s nuclear sites.
Tehran says its armed forces are not trained to attack another country, but the West fears Iran could launch a missile strike against Israel.
