Iran letter to IAEA will advance nuclear talks: Brazil

Brasilia, May 22: Iran’s letter to the IAEA confirming its deal with Turkey and Brazil over an exchange of uranium will advance negotiations on Tehran’s nuclear program, Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim has said.

“We thought the agreement itself would reduce tensions,” he told reporters here. “But I think that once the letter is delivered to the IAEA… negotiations will be able to progress,” he said yesterday.

The International Atomic Energy Agency said Monday it had received the text of the joint declaration, but expected official notification of the commitments made, which was expected to arrive by Monday.

Under the accord, Iran would deposit 1,200 kilograms of low enriched uranium in Turkey in return for fuel for a Tehran research reactor.
