India’s first transgender “Beauty Queen” audition hits Mumbai

Mumbai, January 24: The nation-wide hunt for the most talented transgender hit Mumbai with 10 of the most promising transgender auditioning for the ”VCare Indian Super Queen” title here today.

The judges panel, including Nauheed Cyrusi, Archana Agaram and the country’s leading transgender activist, Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, will select three contestants for the national final to be held in Delhi on February 21.

Selections have already been held in Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Ahmedabad, Bengalore and Jaipur.

”India has the oldest tradition of transgender community in the world, but we still are being denied our basic rights. We have been suppressed more in the last 262 years-200 years under the British and more than 60 years under the Republic of India. Even Bollywood potrays us in a funny light and we are not taken seriously,” said Mr Tripathi.
