Indian woman who killed employer ordered released

Kuala Lumpur, September 02: An Indian woman, who had stabbed her Malaysian employer to death after he allegedly asked her for sexual favours, was today ordered to be released from prison after a court here turned down a prosecution plea to enhance her term.

S Selvi, a mother of two, had admitted murdering her employer in 2006, and had been in prison for five years.

The court upheld the local High Court’s decision to sentence Selvi to four years’ jail and ordered her release since the term had already been served.

Selvi, 40, burst into tears on hearing the verdict and thanked the judges.

On November 17, 2003, the woman was charged with the murder of the victim, G Rajam, at her rented house.

Three years later, the prosecution amended the charge to culpable homicide to which Selvi, who worked as a sweeper, pleaded guilty at the High Court.
