India for urgent UNSC reforms to reflect contemporary realities

New Delhi, September 29: Speaking at United Nations Genral Assembly, Indian External Affairs Minister SM Krishna on Wednesday demanded reforms in the United Nations Security Council, clearly hinting at the demand of a permanent seat for India.

Addressing the UNGA, Krishna said, “Urgent reform of United Nations Security Council needed to reflect contemporary realities.” “Steps must be taken to expand the council”, he added.

Reacting to Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s comments that India is violating human rights in Kashmir valley, Krishna said, “Pakistan cannot impart lessons to us on democracy and human rights.”

Indian Foreign Minister further added that, “Pakistan must fulfil its solemn commitment of not allowing territory under its control to be used for terrorism directed against India.”

He reiterated that that, “Jammu and Kashmir, which is an integral part of India, is the target of Pakistan-sponsored militancy and terrorism. Pakistan has to take credible and firm action against terrorist groups operating from its soil as it is in its own interest.”
