5 die in flood-hit UP

Lucknow, September 29: Five more persons died in flood- related incidents in Uttar Pradesh, taking the toll this season to 420 in the state, officials said today. “Five deaths have been reported from different parts of the state since yesterday as 644 more village were inundated by the flood waters in UP,” a spokesman of Relief Commissioner Office said.

Nearly 3.14 lakh people were affected due to floods which had affected 6,613 village across the state. Situation in Bijnore, Rampur, Moradabad, Shahjahanpur, Farrukhabad, Unnao, Kannauj, Mathura, Bareilly, Muzaffarnagar, Hardoi, Badaun and Kanshiram Nagar is sensitive but under control, the spokesman said.

He said the army was assisting district administration in relief and rescue works in Farukkhabad, Unnao, Badaun and Shahjahanpur districts. According to the Central Water Commission report, the Ganga has started swelling again and was flowing above the danger mark at Fatehgarh, Gumtia, Ankinghat, Kanpur and Dalmau.

The Ramganga was flowing above the red mark at Dabri (Shahjahanpur), whereas the Yamuna river was swelling at Etawah, Auraiya, Kalpi, and Naini, Allahabad.
