IED bomb recovered in J-K

Security forces on Friday recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) bomb in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, weeks ahead of the assembly elections in the state.

The IED, weighing about four kilograms, was hidden inside a small gas cylinder.

“Finding the bomb is a great achievement because it could have killed many people, be it civilian or a soldier,” Major Vishal Kumar said, adding that the intended target of the incendiary device were security forces passing through the area.

Major Kumar added that the IED was later defused through a controlled explosion by the Bomb Disposal Squad.

The five-phase assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir is scheduled to start on November 25, with the counting of votes taking place on December 23. (ANI)
