I don’t support separate Bundelkhand: Rahul Gandhi

Bhopal, January 19: Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi today said he does not support the issue of a separate Bundelkhand.

”I don’t support the issue of a separate Bundelkhand, but the fact remains that the region spread across Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh is badly managed and its people require immense support, he told the media here.

He said that despite the Centre hiking the quantum of monetary assistance for Bundelkhand’s development six fold, there were complaints received that the amount was not fully utilised or the money did not reach the people of the region.

Mr Gandhi said his close encounter with the problems of the region spreading across two states had made him understand the issues better.

”Poverty and unemployment are throwing up the challenge of mass migration from Bundelkhand. Madhya Pradesh has received Rs 6,000 crore for Bundelkhand. This was six times the amount sanctioned earlier for the region,” he said.

Bundelkhand is an immensely backward region. The Centre is making all efforts to bring sccour to the people of the region, he added.
