Hyderabad: The city Traffic police filed 2,274 charge-sheets against drunken drivers from January 1 to 19 they were produced before the III and IV Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Erramanzil here.
According to Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, the Metropolitan Magistrate convicted 287 accused and sentenced them to imprisonment. The Magistrate also permanently cancelled/suspended licenses of 74 convicts. Apart from imposing fine up to Rs 48,46,000, all the accused were sent to Chanchalguda Jail. Besides, 14 top violators for non-payment of challans and nine drivers without license were also jailed.
The violators, who have committed the offence, will be sent for counseling at TTI. Goshamahal and Begumpet. The drive regarding the drunken drive was being continued to curb the Traffic Violations and also for the safety of commuters on the road, the Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) said. (NSS)
