High Court orders to form Minorities Commission within two months

AP High Court has given eight weeks time to Govt. of AP for the formation of AP State Minorities Commission. This order was passed on the Public Interest Litigation petition filed by Mr. Mohammed Aqueel, an advocate of Hyderabad city.

High Court bench consisting of Chief Justice P.C. Ghose and Mr. Justice Vilas Afzulpurkar passed these orders. In his petition Mr. Mohammed Aqueel contended that Govt. promulgated AP State Minorities Commission Act of 1996 in order to protect the interests of Minorities. Govt. of AP had constituted Minorities Commission in 2006 under this act. Its tenure came to an end in 2009. Its Chairman was Mr. Yousuf Quraishi.

He contended that it is the obligation of State Govt. to form Minorities Commission. By delaying the formation of Minorities Commission in the State, the fundamental rights enshrined in the constitution are violated. He said that Govt. of AP is bound for the formation of Minorities Commission but Govt. failed to fulfill its responsibility. He further contended that Minorities are not getting the opportunities to represent their grievances for seeking redressal.
