Allahabad, October 24: The Allahabad High Court today slapped the irrigation secretary of Uttar Pradesh with a fine of Rs 50,000, after holding him guilty of contempt of court a day earlier.
Passing the order, Justice D P Singh also directed M A A Khan to ensure that dues amounting to over Rs 90,000 were paid to petitioner Kavita Kumar “within a month”.
The order comes a day after the court had found Khan guilty of contempt and ordered that he be taken into judicial custody until the punishment was awarded, though the official was spared the ignominy following a request from the state’s Advocate General Jyotindra Mishra.
Kumar, whose husband was an employee of the irrigation department and died in harness in 1994, had moved the court with the plea that she was not paid full death-cum-retirement dues despite repeated orders from the court.
