Dhaka, August 04: Staff Correspondent An unidentified criminal yesterday shot a lawyer in his chamber in broad daylight at the city’s Kailash Ghosh Lane in court area.
Advocate Mia Mohammad Zakir Hossain was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with bullet injury to his right arm.
Zakir, 47, who practices in the High Court and lower courts, lives in the apartment above his chamber.
Sub-Inspector Azimul Karim of Kotwali Police Station said they could not immediately ascertain why he was attacked.
Zakir at DMCH said a youth intruded into his chamber around 5:00pm and fired at him three shots, one of which hit his right arm while other two missed.
“I was talking to one of my friends when my security guard Mozammel came to me and told me that a youth from Kamalapur area wanted to see me. I refused to meet him and asked Mozammel to tell him that I was out. The youth then stormed into the room and fired the shots,” he said.
He said he and his friend had hidden under the table while Mozammel was stunned and standing helpless there.
He said unknown callers had been disturbing him since Friday asking for toll. One of them was apparently in India since an Indian number showed in the caller ID of his phone, Zakir added.
