HC directs OU, police not to permit political meetings on campus

Hyderabad High Court today directed the Osmania University Registrar and police not to give permission for any political meeting on the campus.

Responding to a petition filed by University Law student Rahul, who requested the Court to direct the City Police not to give permission to political public meetings and any other meetings in the Osmania University, the Court issued directions to the Registrar and Police not to give permissions to any political meetings in the University. He argued that the atmosphere of education would be polluted with the political meetings in the University. Rahul mentioned OU Registrar, State Home Department principal secretary, City Police Commissioner and in-charge of local police as respondents in his petition.

On the other hand, University Registrar Prof E Suresh Kumar made it clear that the University has not given any permission to the proposed ‘Jana Jathara’ public meeting on June 2. He also made it clear on Wednesday that the University will not allow outsiders without prior permission. He said that the University took a decision not to face any untoward incident on the occasion of State Formation Day in the university. He also said the semester examinations were going on in the university and made it clear that action will taken against the persons who violated the university directions. There was no permission to the electronic media OB Vans to enter inside the university, he said. (NSS)
