Telangana Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao paid rich tributes to Nawab Ali Nawaz Jung Bahadur, the renowned engineer of erstwhile Hyderabad State, on the occasion of his 137th birth anniversary which was celebrated as Telangana Engineers Day on Friday.
Speaking after unveiling the statue at Erramanzil, Harish Rao described Nawab Nawaz Jung as a visionary who designed projects which were meant to last till centuries. Citing examples he said Nawaz Jung had a role in the construction of several important structures including Osman Sagar, Pocharam Project, Nizam Sagar, Veera Project, Dandi, Nagarjuna Sagar, Pochampad, OU Arts College, OU General Hospital, Jubilee Hills and Nizam Sugar Factory. He said each of these building was unique in its design and usage.
Harish Rao announced that the Telangana Government would create supernumerary posts to accommodate best engineers from across the country. He said that the government would invite and promote best talent in Telangana. He said from now onwards the names of all engineers would be written in the boards on all project.
The minister also informed that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was planning to construct a good memorial for Nawab Ali Nawaz Jung. He also announced Rs 50 lakh fund and 500 sq yards of land for Engineers’ Organisation on this occasion. He also felicitated Nawaz Jung’s grand-son Akbar Ali Khan on this occasion.
Government Advisors Vidyasagar Rao and KVR Ramana Chary, Principal Secretary (Irrigation) Arvind Reddy and other officials were also present.
