New Delhi, August 11: After the Government conceded that it had sent its recommendations on Afzal Guru to the President, a Shiv Sena MP today urged the President that he should be hanged without any further delay.
In a letter to President Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Dr Bharat Kumar Raut said that the nation was keenly awaiting her decision as it was almost a decade since the offence was committed on December 13, 2001.
Justice delayed is justice denied and the kins who had lost their loved ones in the attack felt dejected because the death sentence was confirmed by the Supreme Court on October 2006.
Since the mercy petition of the condemned prisoner was pending in various offences in Delhi, the Home Ministry had sent its recommendation.
“It will be fitting that you accept it and order the execution of the sentence immediately”, Mr Raut wrote adding that the offences committed by the prisoner was exceptional in nature and was targeting Parliament, the temple of democracy.
”If we fail to bring culprit to justice, the anti-national elements would continue to challenge sovereignty. India is often seen as a ‘soft target’ by anti-India elements because there was no hard punishment and crores of Indians look forward to hear your decision,” he said.
