New Delhi: Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers Ananth Kumar on Thursday said that the government will be tabling a bill on triple talaq in parliament next week.
Talking to media, Kumar said ‘The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill 2017’ will be tabled in parliament next week and the draft of the bill has been circulated.
It may be mentioned that after the Supreme Court declared the practice of instant divorce ‘void, illegal and unconstitutional’, the Union Cabinet on 15th December approved the bill that makes instant triple talaq illegal.
Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad will table the bill in the Lok Sabha.
Here are the provisions of the draft bill
- Provisions of the bill are applicable to entire India except Jammu and Kashmir
- When husband pronounces Triple Talaq, women will be entitled to receive an allowance from her husband for her and dependent children.
- Custody of the minor children will be given to the woman.
- As per the draft bill, whoever pronounces Triple Talaq either spoken or written or in any other manner will be imprisonment upto 3 years and fine will also be imposed.
