New Delhi, November 24: The CPI(M) today asked the government to pursue cases against those found responsible for the demolition of Babri Masjid by the Liberhan Commission, saying the December 6, 1992 incident was the “most serious assault” on India’s secular democracy.
“Though justice has been delayed for 17 long years, in this case, justice must be done. If the law has been broken, legal action has to be taken. Concrete action must be taken against the perpetrators on the basis of the evidence gathered in the report,” CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury told reporters here.
He said the main issue of giving exemplary punishment to those found guilty of “most serious assault on our secular democratic polity should not be deflected” by the demand for a probe into the alleged leakage of the report to the media.
