Govt harassing farmers for power bills, alleges TDP

Hyderabad, January 31 (INN): Telugu Desam Party MLC YV Rajendra Prasad has accused the State Government of pressuring the farmers for payment of electricity bills.

Talking to reporters at the Telugu Desam Legislature Party office here on Monday, Rajendra Prasad cited an instance where a woman committed suicide after her husband was allegedly harassed by the energy department officials seeking payment of electricity bill. The incident happened in Sheetampet village of Khammam district wherein Badramma alleged committed suicide by consuming poison after her husband Bhadra was taken to a local police station for non-payment of bill.

Demanding compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the victims’ families, the TDP MLC alleged that the government has been harassing the farmers’ using police force.

Dornakal MLA Satyavathi Rathore alleged that several tribal hamlets in the State were not getting power supply and this has also affected the water supply under the RWS scheme.

Both the TDP leaders demanded that the State Government ensure proper power supply to rural areas and stop harassing the farmers. (INN)
