Washington, December 08: He had once said Twitter is a “poor man’s email system,” and now he is a part of this fast developing micro-blogging site. Google chief executive Eric Schmidt has joined Twitter and he is “tweeting” under the handle @ericschmidt,.
According to the reports from Twitter spokeswoman, Schmidt’s account was activated on December 1 and the Google’s CEO has sent two “tweets”, including the one that has a link to an opinion piece, which he wrote last week in The Wall Street Journal.
Presently Schmidt and has more than 11, 800 followers under his name and that too in just a week.
Earlier in March, Schmidt had made a derogatory remark about Twitter at the Morgan Stanley Technology conference, but he was quick enough to change his stance and ‘admire’ Twitter.
He admitted the fact that Twitter “did a very good job of exposing a whole new way to communicate”. There have been speculations that Google may be interested in buying Twitter for its potential as a real-time search engine.
Twitter has witnessed an upsurge in popularity ever since it was launched in August 2006.
