In response to a nation- wide bandh call demanding the Centre to remove the rule of compulsory PAN card to purchase gold, the gold shops across the City were closed on Wednesday.
Basheerbagh, Abids, Begum Bazar and in other places, the gold businessmen closed their shops and participated in the agitation. They lamented that it was not proper to the Centre to bring a rule of that a PAN card is compulsory if a customer purchases more than Rs.2 lakh worth gold. Saying that only 22 crore people have PAN cards across the nation, the gold businessmen questioned the Centre to tell whether those who have no PAN card should not purchase gold. “Where from women and farmers from villages bring PAN cards”, they questioned and said that their business was reduced to 70 percent, after bringing PAN card rule. They demanded the Centre to enhance the PAN limit up to Rs.10 lakh purchase of gold. (NSS)
