Gold scales to a new peak, crosses Rs 18,900-level

Mumbai, June 08: Prices of standard gold scaled to a new peak and even crossed Rs 18,900-level during the morning trade on fresh stockists buying, triggered by a sharp rise in global markets.

Silver also shot up in line with gold price coupled with higher international advices.

Gold futures for August delivery rose by USD 23.10 an ounce to USD 1,240.80 on the Comex Division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, yesterday amid lingering concerns about the health of the world economy.

Standard gold (99.5 purity) shot up by Rs 295 per ten grams to resume at Rs 18,940 from the overnight closing level of Rs 18,645.

Pure gold (99.9 purity) also rose to a historic high of Rs 19,025 from Rs 18,730 previously.

Silver ready (.999 fineness) strengthened by Rs 845 per kilo to Rs 29,700 from Rs 28,855 previously.
