Mumbai, September 30: Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray Thursday said he was glad the Ayodhya matter “ended” with the Allahabad High Court’s judgment that the spot where the Babri mosque in Ayodhya stood before it was razed by Hindu mobs in 1992 was indeed the birthplace of Ram.
“I am glad that the long pending Ramjanmabhoomi issue of Ayodhya came to an end with the court’s verdict,” he said in a brief statement here.
However, the Shiv Sena has not disclosed their stand on the verdict. A party spokesperson earlier said the party will not want to comment unless they read the judgment copy carefully and that it will be premature to take a stand based on half baked information.
By a majority decision, the Lucknow bench of the high court also declared that the land around the disputed site should be divided into three parts – one going to Hindus, another to Muslims and the third to Nirmohi Akhara, a Hindu sect and a litigant in the case.
