Union minister Bandaru Dattatraya on Saturday called upon women players to come forward to participate in sports on par with the men.
Inaugurating the 61st National Schools Hand Ball Tournament at Government Physical Education College at Domalguda here on Saturday, Dattatreya said women were showing talent on par with the men in Education, employment, technology and other sectors and wished them to show their talent even in the sports too. He also said games were important to students and they have to give priority to games along with education. He extended greetings to the students, who came from various States to participate in the tournament.
Telangana State Sports Minister T Padmarao Goud said the State government was taking steps for the development of the games. Responding to the local MLA’s request on facilities in Physical Education College, Padmarao said the government would initiate steps for development of the Physical Education College. He suggested to sports persons to show the strength of the Telangana State by participating in national and international tournaments.
Musheerabad MLA Dr K Laxman urged the State government to fill the vacant Physical Education Teachers’ posts in the government schools across the State. He said there was a need to provide drinking water, toilets and other basic facilities in the Physical Education College.
MLC Janardhan Reddy, Hyderabad District Education Officer Somi Reddy, District School Games Federation organising secretary Tirupati Reddy, Assistant Educational Officers, PETs from various states participated in the program.
Some 800 students aged 17 years from 25 States, will be participating in the tournament to be held for five days. The march-past and cultural programs staged by the students from various States attracted the participants in a big way. (NSS)
