Agartala, February 24: A mob ransacked the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) camp in tribal dominated Nandakurampara in Khowai of West Tripura last evening following the allegation of rape against the jawans.
Official sources said police arrested one Tejendra Boroi, a jawan of the battalion last night following the complaint of raping a minor in the area when she was returning back home from her relative.
This was the second rape allegation labeled against TSR in the same locality in past a week.
The incident irked the villagers and they stormed the camp and set some thatched constructions on fire and broke TV set in evening, the sources stated.
On February 18, an NCT candidate Nilima Debbarma (28) was allegedly raped and murdered by some 6th battalion TSR jawans of Aidankar camp under Champahawar police station.
A Commandant of the battalion was facing enquiry for his lack of command over his personnel, but yesterday’s incident only added fuel to the fire and complicated the matter.
NCT Chief and former MLA Animesh Debbarma alleged that the 15-year-old girl was belong to the family of a supporter of his party and the jawan Tejendra Boroi forcibly took her to jungle and raped her.
Later, the victim told the incident to the family members, who immediately informed the villagers.
The entire village then thronged in front of the TSR camp and began the rampage.
