Hyderabad, July 30: “The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation employees are presently focussing on percentages rather than on providing relief from civic problems to residents of the city,” accused Telugu Desam Party Floor leader in the Corporation Singireddy Srinivas Reddy on Friday.
Talking to INN, Mr Singireddy said that the situation was such in the GHMC that it was as if the employees were competing with each other to rake in bribes and kickbacks.
He revealed that the as many as eight officers of IAS ranks are sitting idle in the GHMC, since the Body is not utilising their services. He said that this is a burden that the cash strapped Corporation can do without.
The TDP leader added that the tussle between the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Commissioner and Standing Committee members over one-upmanship is taking its toll on the common man living in the city.
Mr Singireddy pointed out that the roads are going from bad to worse due to the incessant rains and overflowing drains. GHMC has not responded to calls for solving complaints of stagnant water leading to breeding of mosquitoes, he said.
The TDP Floor Leader said that the entire administration has collapsed and there are many reasons for this. He cited the example of Circle No 4 in South Zone which has 25 Wards under one Deputy Commissioner while Circle No 16 in North Zone has only three Wards. He added that there are only four Wards in Kapra Circle No 1 and three Wards in Kapra Circle No 2.
He added that Circle No 7 in Central Zone, Khairtabad, has only three Wards, the same as Circle No 8, Abids.
The TDP leader said that the disparity between the numbers of Wards in Circles has led to feelings of being overburdened by some officials. This has also resulted of civic problems being neglected in some Circles where the staff is overburdened.
Mr Singireddy added that the 150 Divisions can be equally divided into 18 Circles so that the staff in each Ward is not overburdened.
The TDP leader also added that the Engineering and Medical Health departments have also collapsed. He suggested that reshuffling of the departments could solve many problems needing immediate attention.
Mr Singireddy alleged that Mayor Banda Kartika Reddy has suggested that the Corporation sell land in Survey Number 671/1, Bathkammagutta, Amberpet. He said that the TDP vehemently opposes selling of Corporation’s land.
