Following directions from Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao and GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, the GHMC has prepared plans to take up cleaning of nalas throughout the year.
In a pressnote here on Saturday, the GHMC Commissioner said tenders worth Rs 30.18 crore were invited for cleaning of 951 km long major nalas, drains, small nalas and pipe drains cleaning though out the year. The major part of the tender process was completed, he said. According to him, 4,49,111 cubic meters of waste will be cleared in 216 kilometers major nalas. At the same time, the GHMC will take up cleaning of 3,33,780 cubic meters waste in 735 kilometers minor drains, pipe drains. The nalas waste will be shifted to nearby dumping yards or at low level areas and it will be dumped in quarry pits. The GHMC has taken up works to complete the 100 percent cleaning of nalas by the end of May, he said.
GHMC Commissioner said that the works will be launched within three days. Machines will be used to clean the major nalas. Jetting machines will be used to clear the storm water drains and manually cleaned where it was not possible to clean the drains with machines. He said the cleaning up of nalas works will be done in a transparent manner. (NSS)
