GHMC to open 100 more Rs 5 meal centers in city: Mayor

Mayor Bonthu Rammohan today announced that the GHMC has decided to feed 50,000 poor people in the city every day through the Rs 5 a meal scheme.

 

Inaugurating a Rs 5 meal scheme at Uppal Bus stage in Secunderabad along with MP Ch Malla Reddy on Saturday, the Mayor said apart from the existing 50 meal centers, the Corporation would open another 100 Rs 5 meal centers in phases in the city, for this the GHMC would be spending some Rs 30 crore every year. Stating that additional Rs 5 meal centers were being opened at the behest of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Rammohan said a search was on for selecting places for the purpose. He also said priority would be given to open such meal schemes for the benefit of Adda coolies.

 

Local corporator Akula Roopa, GHMC deputy commissioner Vijay Raj, representatives of Hare Krishna Movement participated in the program. (NSS)
