GHMC forms by-laws to check dog menace

Hyderabad, July 09: In a bid to check dog menace in areas under its jurisdiction, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has framed by-laws on Animal Birth Control on the directions of Andhra Pradesh High Court.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Animal Birth (Control)-Dogs by-laws 2009 calls for mandatory registration of pet dogs and and dog breeders.

The corporation in joint collaboration with NGOs would sterilise and immunise street dogs by methods approved by the Animal Welfare Board of India, GHMC Commissioner S P Singh said, adding that it would also set up Animal Birth Control program centers and organise camps for sterilisation and immunisation.

The sterilised dogs will be vaccinated before release and the ears of these dogs would either be clipped or notched for identification before being released in the same area from where they are caught, Singh said.
