Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, GHMC, is planning to clear stagnant water from thirteen critical waterlogged areas. The estimated cost to take up the task is Rs 61 crore. The increase in the number of complaints from residents and traffic police led the GHMC to take up the work.
Areas such as Malkajgiri, Deeptisrinagar, Nacharam, Chandrababu Naidu Nagar, Lalapet, Biodiversity junction, Uppal, Nagole, the University of Hyderabad main road, and many others are being inundated for the last few days.

To clear stagnation, box culverts, stormwater drains and RCC drains will be constructed at 13 locations to address this long-pending issue, reports Telangana Today.
GHMC would also identify the causes of water stagnation and will take temporary as well as permanent measures.
The 13cm rainfall made the narrow drains, pipelines choked with plastic bags. Debris was found hindering the flow of water at Punjagutta, Biodiversity junction, to name a few, causing stagnation.
For long-term remedial measures, such cases will have to be dealt in coordination with different departments, an official said. Tenders have been floated for a few works and the rest will be taken up at the earliest, he said.
