Srinagar, December 12: Breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani today remained under custody after his arrest from a hospital here last evening.
Mr Geelani was scheduled to address a press conference at his Hyderpora residence at 1100 hrs which has been postponed as he remained under custody of police, HC spokesman Aiyaz Akbar told today.
He said Mr Geelani was arrested last evening from SMHS hospital where he had gone to see the condition of a boy who was hit and injured by a bullet during firing by security forces at Maisuma to disperse the demonstrators.
Mr Geelani had called for a general strike in Srinagar yesterday to protest alleged illegal occupation of lakhs of kanals of land by the forces in Jammu and Kashmir.
Mr Akbar said he was put in Shergrahi police station after his arrest.
The breakaway HC had rejected the talks offer on Kashmir from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Home Minister P Chidambaram.
However, another HC faction, led by Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq, welcomed it.
The condition of senior Hurriyat leader Fazal Haq Qureshi, who was shot at and injured by unidentified gunmen last week at Buchpora, has improved in the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), where he has been admitted.
