Gayle blown out of Zimbabwean Twenty20 clash

St John’s, February 24: Chris Gayle will be “rested” for West Indies’ sole Twenty20 International against Zimbabwe this coming Sunday at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad, the West Indies Cricket Board announced.

The West Indies captain was not included in a 13-member squad for the match, but a WICB media release yesterday indicated that he is “expected to be available” for the five One-day Internationals against the Zimbabweans that follow.

In Gayle’s absence, wicketkeeper/batsman Denesh Ramdin, Gayle’s vice-captain for the just concluded limited-overs series against Australia, has been named captain.

Gayle has been quite active over the last three months which he has spent Down Under.

Following a series of three Tests against Ricky Ponting’s side, he stayed on to play for Western Australia in the Twenty20 Big Bash domestic competition, and then the just concluded series of five ODIs and two T20Is against the Baggy Greens.
