Gambhir retains top spot, Sehwag slips

Dubai, January 19: Indian opener Gautam Gambhir retained his top spot while teammate Virender Sehwag dropped a place to sixth in the latest ICC ranking for the Test batsmen.

Australia’s vice-captain Michael Clarke, who scored a brilliant 166 in the first innings of the third Test against Pakistan at Hobart, jumped six places to replace Sehwag in the fifth position, an ICC release said.

India batsman Rahul Dravid slipped two places to 14th position with master blaster Sachin Tendulkar following him, the release said.

In the ICC rankings for Test bowlers, off-spinner Harbhajan Singh held on to his sixth position. The other Indian bowler in the top-20 list is seamer Zaheer Khan (12).

In the ICC rankings for Test all-rounders, England’s Graeme Swann and Australia’s Mitchell Johnson have swapped places with the former now is third position. The list is still headed by Jacques Kallis of South Africa with New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori in second place.

India remain number one in ICC Test Championship table with South Africa and Australia following at number two and three place respectively.
