Melbourne, September 08: Adding to the woes of Australia’s already battered education sector, fresh allegations have surfaced against some private colleges that are allegedly demanding extra and advance payments from overseas students, threatening them with deportation.
ABC radio reported it has obtained copies of complaints from overseas students, who claim colleges were demanding extra payments and threatening them with deportation.
The fresh allegations emerged even as Australia is putting efforts to save its 15 billion dollar overseas education industry that is already under crisis following attacks on Indian students and immigration scams.
The report revealed that in some cases, students were marked absent or banned from submitting assignments because they had not paid the next semester’s fees.
Overseas Student Support Network Australia (OSSNA) said students were becoming increasingly desperate.
