Four Taliban militants killed in Pakistan clashes

Peshawar, December 26: A fierce clash between Pakistani security forces and militants in the restive Mohmand tribal region today left at least four Taliban militants dead and seven injured, officials said.

The clash occurred overnight in Chamarkand area of Mohmand Agency, one of seven semi-autonomous tribal areas along the border with Afghanistan.

Security forces have launched search operations in various areas of the agency, officials said.

Pakistani security forces backed by fighter jets yesterday pounded Taliban hideouts in Orakzai and Swat regions in the restive north-west killing 14 militants and injuring eight others, officials said.

Fighter jets bombed militant hideouts in the Orakzai tribal region and killed 10 militants. Eight others were injured when the jets dropped bombs, officials said.

Two hideouts and four vehicles were destroyed in yesterday’s attack. Officials said the aircraft targeted militant hideouts but local residents claimed women and children were among the dead and injured.
