Four fresh cases in City

Hyderabad, August 08: Four fresh cases of swine flu were reported in the City today.

Of them, three cases have a foreign travel history and the fourth case is a contact case.

With the latest cases, the total number of swine flu cases reported in the city have gone up to 72.

According to the officials, a 35-year-old NRI who was travelling from San Francisco in USA by Emirates Flight EK 365 came to Hyderabad on August 2. He developed symptoms of H1N1 Influenza including sour throat, fever and cold on the next day, and approached the authorities of Government Chest Hospital for treatment on the same day. The doctors sent his throat and nasal swabs to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) at New Delhi which reported to be positive.

Similarly, two engineering students aged 23 were also tested positive.

Despite media reports and warnings from officials to avoid foreign tours, the youngsters went on a holiday tour to Singapore and Thailand. They returned to Hyderabad from Malaysia via Bangkok by Thai Airlines flight TG 389 on August 3 when one of them was quarantined at the airport after he developed symptoms of swine flu. Later, his friend too developed symptoms and the duo got admitted to the Chest Hospital on August 5.

The fourth case is that of a 21-year-old software firm employee who went to visit her parents at Pune recently. After two days, she returned to Hyderabad.

Later, she had severe fever and vomitings when she was admitted to the hospital on August 5. Of the total 72 cases, 63 patients have been discharged and the remaining are undergoing treatment.
