New Delhi, August 19: Former Delhi state footballer Satpal Handa passed away in the US due to heart failure, according to information recevied from his younger brother former National referee and DFA Joint Secretary and Treasurer Inder Pal Handa.
Satpal Handa, aged about 85 years old, left behind him his two married sons.
Handa started his career as a mid-fielder in 1943 with one of Delhi’s most famous clubs – New Delhi Heroes FC – and was a member of the club team until 1955. He represented his club in Delhi’s two famous tournaments – Durand and DCM.
His club New Delhi Heroes FC won initial editions of DCM Football tournament and Delhi Football League Championship titles.
His contemporaries were Delhi’s star players – Amba Pershad, VP Suri, Mohinder Pal, K D Thapar, TN Lau, GL Juneja, Kewal Kaushik etc.
Delhi Soccer Association (DSA) President Subhash Chopra and managing committee members expressed their heart-felt condolences over his untimely demise.
