Hyderabad: Charminar area in Hyderabad will get a footpath for pedestrians besides introducing battery run vehicles and buses for better transportation avoiding pollution in just five months, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister, KT Rama Rao informed Assembly here. During question hour replying to queries of MIM members Akbaruddin Owaisi, Mumthaj Khan and Pasha Quadri, the minister vowed to develop the old city to great extent. He further said that Charminar is Hyderabad’s shaan (a prestigious historic monument in the city). So we will keep it intact and take steps to glorify it he said adding that temporary toilets will be put in place at the Charminar area. Though the development and renovation works taken a back seat for some time we will address the problem soon, he said. Our plan is to provide the old city with better amenities he said. The minister said that footpath project was much delayed. Though design for footpath at Charminar area was planned in 1993, related works taken up in 2007 and were left incomplete by the previous governments he said. (NSS)
