FM assures to look into film industry tax probs

Mumbai, March 07: Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today said he would hold detailed consultations with the film industry’s representatives to address their concerns regarding taxation after the current Parliament session ends.

“After Parliament session is over, I would discuss the issue with film fraternity in consultation and coordination with the Information and Broadcasting minister Ambika Soni,” he said.

Mukherjee’s comments came after noted filmaker Yash Chopra sought his appointment to discuss the problems arising due to high taxes and duties.

Filmmakers including Chopra, Mukhesh Bhatt, Boney Kapoor and other representatives of the Film Federation of India, distributors met Mukherjee at the music launch function of Marathi film ‘Krantiveer Rajguru’.

L Suresh, Federation’s President told Mukherjee that service tax is imposed on 27 out the 30 departments of film production.
