Five killed in Pakistan militant attack

Islamabad, February 15: A militant attack has killed at least five people and injured several others in southern Pakistani province of Sindh.

The attack took place at about 11:15 a.m. local time Wednesday when unidentified militants ambushed a car carrying five people at Moro Highway in Naushero Feroz district in central Sindh province.

The assailants were hiding in sugar cane fields. They also hit a passenger van passing by the site.

All the five people in the car were killed on the spot while several others in the passenger van were also injured.

The people in the car were on their way back home after attending a court hearing.

The attackers managed to flee the scene.

More than 35,000 Pakistanis have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001 when Pakistan entered an alliance with the US on the so-called war against terrorism.

Since late 2009, there has been a surge in militant attacks in Pakistan, where thousands have been displaced in the aftermath of the militancy sweeping across the country.
