Manila, December 06: Police killed five suspected kidnappers and rescued an Indian citizen near the Philippine capital Sunday, an official said.
Three of the suspects were killed before dawn after they opened fire at a police checkpoint Calumpit town in Bulacan province, 30 kilometres north of Manila, according to Senior Superintendent Isagani Nerez.
A few minutes later, police anti-kidnapping operatives raided the suspects’ nearby lair, killing two accomplices and rescuing the kidnap victim.
Nerez said the Indian national was seized by the suspects two days earlier while driving along a busy street in Manila’s suburban city of Quezon.
Nerez said the successful rescue operation was conducted in cooperation with the family of the victim, who reported the kidnapping to the police.
