Chittagong, January 18: Bangladesh charge towards bowling out India were halted by bad lights after they reduce the top Test team in the world to 213/8 at close on the opening day of the first Test at the Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong.
Sachin Tendulkar (76*) was wagging a lone battle for India in the middle with offered Ishant Sharma (1*) giving him company when they were finally offered light by the two on field umpires.
Resuming at 160/6 after tea Sachin Tendulkar and Amit Mishra (14) added another 22 more runs before Shahadat Hossain trapped Mishra plumb leg-before.
Shakib then dismissed Zaheer Khan (11) who popped an inside edge top Raqibul Hasan.
Shakin Al Hasan (4/52) and Shahadat Hossain (4/51) were disciplined throughout the ijnnigs never allowing the Indian batsman build a partnership and settle them down.
Post Lunch Session
Earlier Virender Sehwag (52) and Gautam Gambhir (23) gave India a solid start before both the batsman depart in the space of 3 deliveries falling to Shakib and Shahdat after adding 79-run for the opening wicket.
Both the batsman have only themselves to blame for throwing away their wicket with sehwag falling to a nothing shot and Gambhir chasing a wide delivery.
Rahul Dravid (4) was cleaned up by a Shahdat yorker and VVS Laxman (7) soon joined as he was stumped by Musfiqur Rahim after the ball deflected of his pad.
Yuvraj Singh (12) and Sachin added 42 for the fifth wicket before Yuvraj miscued a Shakib full toss straight in the hands of Rubel Hossain.
Four balls later Dinesh Karthick (0) edged one at the gully to Raqibul Hasan as Bangladesh put themselves in a strong position to dictate terms.
India lost 6 wickets for 97 runs of 32 overs in the post lunch session.
First session
India were 63/0 from 13 overs at lunch after start of play was delayed by over an hour and a half due to thick fog and poor visibility.
Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan had won the toss and elected to field first in the morning.
Virender Sehwag is leading the India side in the absence of Mahendra Singh Dhoni who was ruled out of the match due to back injury. Also missing from the Indian line up is regular spinner Harbhajan Singh who is out with a stiff neck.
Bangladesh handed Test debut to seamer Shafiul Islam while Shahriar Nafees and Shahadat Hossian comes back to the Test side.
For India Amit Mishra replaced Harbhajan Singh while Ishant Sharma is back in the bowling attack.
