Srinagar, September 27: Fire destroyed 20 shops in Ganderbal, the home constituency of Chief Minister Omar Abdulla, hours after 30 structures were charred at Gurez sector near the LoC in Bandipora district.
Fire broke out in one of the shops at Beehama chowk, 23 kms from here, early today and it spread to adjoining shops, sources said. There was no casualty.
Though fire tenders were called in, 20 shops were damaged. The loss of property is estimated to be over Rs one crore.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir government provided relief among the fire victims of refugee-II, a remote village of Gurez sector, where about 30 structures were damaged yesterday.
Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats Ali Mohammmad Sagar, accompanied by Minister of State for Housing, Relief and Rehabilitation, Nasir Aslam Wani, visited the families and distributed relief of Rs 35,000 each.
