An FB post that sent Zakir Tyagi to 40 days in Jail

Muzaffarnagar: The eighteen-year-old, Zakir Ali Tyagi was picked up by cops after he returned from a soiree of Urdu poetry on April, 2. He spent 40 days in prison after he had posted a status on Facebook about UP CM, Yogi Adityanath.

Tyagi said after becoming the chief minister of UP, Yogi Adityanath asked all criminals to leave the state during his speech in Gorakhpur. Tyagi took it to the social media and wrote: “I don’t have the audacity to remind Yogi of the multiple cases registered against him, and out of those, 22 are serious.”

On the basis of his Facebook status, police showed up along with a screenshot and arrested him, Tyagi said.

Police slapped an outlawed charge of 66A on him but then decided to remove ‘A’. With reference to this section, they were not able to send him to jail. The police then charged him with section 420 based on his profile picture and put him behind bars, Tyagi explained.

After losing his job and the aspiration to become a journalist, he is now fighting a legal battle and is currently on bail.

“I wanted to progress in life, but the government has turned my dreams into ashes,” Tyagi said.
